Low back pain is one of the leading causes of disability worldwide, and there is a lot of information about it online.
As health professionals who assess and treat people with low back pain everyday, we get extremely frustrated by the poor and misleading information that people are able to find. We also get frustrated by what our back pain clients get told by friends, family, and anyone else who wants to give advice on their back pain. We get extremely frustrated when other health professionals also give information that is out of date, and not evidence based (ie not in keeping with scientific research and understanding).
The ‘Toronto Academic Pain Medicine Institute (TAPMI)’ is one of our favourite resources on low back pain, especially chronic or persistent low back pain (ie back pain that is lasting longer than expected).
This page is designed for patients and has educational information about risk factors, diagnosis, treatment options, and self management strategies. All the information is easy to read, and simple.
